JOB DESCRIPTION

 

POSITION: Upper GEP and IELTS Lead Teacher

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Campus Manager

HOURS:

- 41.5 hours a week / full time

- Working within business hours from Monday to Saturday.

- Hours on-site may vary depending on teaching schedule requirements and events.

The role of the Upper GEP and IELTS Lead Teacher is to oversee ACE’s General English and IELTS Programs to ensure high-quality educational outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities


Teaching

·         Teach load of up to 13.5 hours per week primarily on the General English / IELTS Program.

·         Cover classes as required when teachers are not available.


Academic

·         Work together with the Academic Team, other staff members and experienced teachers to ensure high performance and promote professionalism in the workplace.

·         Monitor and evaluate the implementation of the GEP/IELTS curriculum and materials and provide feedback to the Academic Team.

·         Collaborate with the Academic Team to develop support materials and training for the GEP/IELTS curriculum as required.

·         Provide day-to-day support for teachers on all GEP/IELTS course-related matters: e.g. lesson preparation, teaching materials, discipline &amp, classroom management, assessing student progress, identifying training needs through on-going needs analysis.

·         Be the principal point for communications between the Academic Coordinator and the teachers, providing briefings, information on updates and feedback.

·         Manage extra-curricular activities and academic projects: e.g. GEP Graded Readers, IELTS for ACE teachers.


 Student Counselling

·         Counsel students with regards to issues such as attendance, motivation, and level.

·         Support academic counselling working with CSO Team: e.g. observe and participate in counselling at Open Days to help identify areas for improvement.


 Development

·         Observations

o   Train and support new observers

o   Observe teachers and provide constructive feedback


 Professional Development

·         Conduct PD sessions and encourage sharing sessions among teachers to build a supportive culture and working environment.

·         Provide feedback to the Academic Team as required.

·         Present at annual CamTESOL Conference and encourage teachers to present/attend, providing guidance and support.

 

Administrative

·         . Provide administrative and other support to teachers to ensure that the highest quality service is provided to ACE students.

·         . Participate in and run meetings as required, including LTM; JMT; Staff and New Teacher Meetings; IELTS induction, etc

·         . Keep up to date with current statistics and data trends, including placement testing, enrolment and retention rates, Academic Counselling and Open Day performance, etc

·         . Generate data of borderline and repeating students and work with teachers to help support the struggling students throughout the term.

·         . Assist with timetabling, assessments and enrolment procedures for failing or borderline students.

·         . Arrange mentors for new teachers and identify level moderators for all GEP levels.

·         . Arrange peer observations for new teachers appropriate to academic needs.

·         . Score the writing section of GEP Placement Tests for prospective students (GEP Level 6+)

·         . Coordinate Mock IELTS exams, GILC Talk and Student Support Workshops as required.

·         . Ensure open communication between teachers and parents concerning students’ learning progress and study options.

·         . Ensure open communication between teachers-students-guardians concerning struggling or troublesome students and deal with complaints regarding Academic performance.

·         . Manage teachers’ use of staffroom facilities, ensuring general tidiness and a professional and work-like environment exists.

·         . Collaborate with the Points of Contact at their campus for ‘I’m ACE’ magazine as required and encourage contributions from students and teachers.

·         . Support CSR activities and public events.

·         . Work on special projects as required.

HR

·         Interviewing

·         Interview prospective teaching candidates (face-to-face, Skype) and complete interview reports.

Induction

·         Assist with the induction of new teaching staff to the ACE working environment and culture to ensure performance standards are met

Events

·         Participate as required in ACE events, including graduations, debate and YL speech competitions, CamDEBATE, GAC.

·         Coordinate and run campus events as required: e.g. Open day, Children’s Fair, group blood donation.

·         Participate as required in community and network outreach events: e.g. Children’s Fair, Business Chamber, Plastic-Free Asia Environment


Any other duties as directed by the Campus Manager.
